Quieter days and longer nights

As winter settles into Melbourne, progress in the studio is naturally taking a bit longer. The clay requires extra time to dry, and the recycling process is slower as well. This season presents a great opportunity to catch up on administrative tasks, which can be quite time-consuming.

On a positive note, I believe I have crafted a more enjoyable experience for customers visiting my website. I hope you enjoy the thoughtfulness behind the emails you will now receive when reaching out to Unearthed.

I am also continuing to explore new ideas. I’m enjoying the use of gold lustre and the intricate detailing that highlights its beautiful luminosity. Additionally, I'm experimenting with various mid-fire glazes from Walkers and am excited about the new colour options they offer. This is new for me as I usually make all my own glazes from scratch, but it is fun to play around with new ideas.

Recently, I had a fulfilling experience creating a large order of plates using a custom stamp, which proved to be a fantastic learning project. I continue to take pleasure in the beautiful commissions that come my way. I completed a beautiful Ashes Urn that was joy to work on with the client, and was able to make something completely bespoke for her and her family. I also created a Masala Dubba that will be given as a Wedding gift and used for decades to come. Lots of lovely personal jobs that being a small scale production potter allows me to make.
