The Kindred Lantern brings together two disciplines through a shared language of texture. Katrina Carling’s hand-etched ceramics meet the warm translucence of Jo Schoof’s organic candle forms, creating a luminous object that is at once functional and aesthetic.
The Kindred Lantern ceramic wax lantern is a handcrafted object designed to bring gentle light and atmosphere into any space.
Every component of the lantern base and shade is carefully shaped by hand, then lit with a purpose-built lantern candle. The etched design flows seamlessly from the ceramic base into the wax shade, creating a continuous pattern beautifully revealed when illuminated.
Made across the studios of A Little Light Candles and Unearthed Ceramics, the lantern combines traditional craft techniques with a focus on slow, intentional making. The unique packaging is also custom-designed by the creative pair, hand-finished, and includes a hand-sewn Japanese paper instruction booklet, with sustainability front of mind in every choice.

Our Approach
Each Kindred Lantern is made by hand in Melbourne, Victoria, by Jo Schoof (A Little Light) and Katrina Carling (Unearthed Ceramics).
Jo Schoof has been creating her beautiful, tactile candles in her business A Little Light for more than 25 years. Her candles are well loved—far and wide.
Katrina Carling has been making handmade ceramics in her business Unearthed Ceramics for the past 12 years and is informed by her Interior Design background.
Bespoke Storage, designed by Claire Quirk of Clan Collective, is painted by hand. Every assembly and care booklet is hand-sewn and consciously crafted with sustainable materials.
