Flora Wallhangings are an extension of my garden…

I have been creating these wall hangings for many years now…playing with different glaze finishes. Making them bespoke for customers home spaces. They really are an unending joy to make and I think their magic is in the combination of textile craft and botanical beauty.

I use Eucalyptus gum from a Red Flowering Gum tree we planted when my Father passed so that always carries significance for me each time I pick some fresh leaves to work with. The handmade textiles are falling apart from so much use, but I can’t help but enjoy piecing the fragments together as it gives it even more credence because of the fragility of this craft’s work.

I try to put together tonal combinations of glaze so that they work seemlessly together and flow easily along from each medallion.

I hope a piece from this batch sings to you, like it does for me each time I complete one, out on my deck. This lot were actually made underneath a blackbirds nest, where the parents spent long days feeding their three offspring so I was aware each time food had arrived, as the chirping from the babies let me know it. That was the soundtrack behind this lot!
