Unearthed Medium Orchard Kitchen Wall Hanging

$140.00

The Orchard Kitchen

These colours are inspired by the kitchen tiles of my childhood home, an orchard in the Goulburn Valley. It was a beautiful old mud-brick house, renovated in the 1970s with blue-green tiles in the kitchen. In that magical spot, my best friend and I were given free rein to bake to our hearts’ content.

It was so good that even the clean-up fairy seemed to appear after every cake went into the oven, leaving us free to run outside and play up in the boughs of the peppercorn tree.

I still bake my favourite chocolate cake recipe for my singing group to this day. Muscle memory, perhaps, and the leftover mixture is eternally a treat.

Summer days, free spirits, swimming for hours, fresh fruit picked straight from the trees, and local kids from all parts of the earth to play with. That was the freedom of the 70s.

The Orchard Kitchen is a little piece of that memory, captured in jewel-like colour. Each hanging is unique and made especially for you, carrying its own combination of colour, story and character.

Created with good intentions, each ceramic wall hanging carries a little history within it. Katrina handprints the clay using heirloom textiles from her own wedding, and a handmade Huon pine rolling pin brought home from Tasmania is her most-used tool.

Tactile and rustic, these pieces are made for both indoor and outdoor spaces, bringing the warmth and beauty of handmade into your living.

Each piece is individually made and size and markings may vary slightly which is of course the beauty of a functional artwork like this.
